Four-Eyed Family

November 5, 2014 by MrsC | Patricia Cuyugan 19 Comments

We are now, officially, a four-eyed family. I always hoped that Little MrC wouldn’t have to wear glasses, at least until he was old and grey. But alas, given our family history with spectacles, I’m really not surprised that he now needs them.

As you’ve probably already noticed, both MrC and I wear glasses. We both have astigmatism, and I am also near-sighted. I started needing mine when I was 7. The husbandry started wearing his in the 7th grade. Several other members of both families have worn, and still wear glasses. So yes, it’s safe to say that bad eyes is kind of in our genes.

A few weeks ago, I started noticing that the little guy was holding his books very close to his face while reading. He was also blinking a lot, going near the TV while watching, and complaining about headaches. I knew it was time to have his eyes checked.

So, before their sembreak ended, he and I visited our friendly neighborhood ophthalmologist, Dr. Peggy Manese, in Healthway Alabang Town Center. The moment she asked the little boy to read the chart, we knew his eyesight was bad. He only got 4 out of 15 letters right. Uh-oh.

Uh oh someone needs #glasses.

That same day, the  boys and I visited each and every optical shop in ATC to look for the perfect frames for the kiddo. Luckily, we have had a lot of experience picking out glasses, so we knew what to look for. If you will take another look at the photo above, you’ll see that my mom’s eyeglasses buying skills kind of matched her hair cutting skills. Sorry, Ma.

We finally settled on a nice red and black frame from Sarabia Optical, after a lot of walking, and after the little guy had tried on about 20 or so different frames. They were on sale, so we got it at a good price, and Sarabia also offers friendly lens rates, so we didn’t need to pay a whole lot. That, of course, is a good thing.

We had to wait until the following day to pick up the finished glasses, but that was okay. They were worth the wait. Thing is, I never imagined that my kiddo would look like such a big boy in glasses. All of a sudden, it really feels like he is a baby no more! Waaahhhh.

The good news is that we were able to have his eyes checked early enough that it can still be corrected. So mommies and daddies, when in doubt, go and have your kids’ eyes checked by a doctor. Some signs that might indicate that your kid needs glasses are:

  • They squint or blink a lot
  • They move closer to the TV while watching or hold a book close to their faces while reading
  • They often trip or bump into things
  • They tilt or turn their head when trying to focus on something, coz maybe one eye sees better than the other
  • They complain of headaches or eye pain
Lots of love from our four-eyed family!

So far the little boy has been good about wearing his glasses at all times, so hopefully when we go back for a checkup next year, his vision will have gotten better. I’m keeping my fingers crossed for that.

Do any of your kids wear glasses, too?

Steven Universe for Halloween

November 3, 2014 by MrsC | Patricia Cuyugan 10 Comments

I don’t know about you guys, but I love Halloween. It’s become even more fun now that the boys and I can coordinate costumes. We haven’t been able to do this every year, though we often tried. And honestly, we haven’t put a whole lot of effort into building our costumes, really, until this year.

Little MrC decided he wanted to be Steven Universe. For those of you who are unfamiliar with the character, he is from a Cartoon Network show. MrC and I are both so exposed to this cartoon coz the kid watches it all.the.time, so we were super game to have it as our costume theme.

Source: themarysue.com

Obviously, the little boy in the photo is Steven, and the three beings (coz they aren’t exactly women) around him are the Crystal Gems. I decided right away that I wanted to be Amethyst, the purple gem. I thought that MrC would choose to be one of the other two, but I guess that wasn’t a challenging enough costume for him. Instead, he decided he would be Lion.

And so the costume shopping and DIY-ing began about two weeks before Halloween. I was honestly pretty proud of what we ended up with on Trick or Treat day! Don’t you think we look cute?

Tada!
Tada!

We had a great time trick or treating, and I got a new top and sneakers, too. Bonus! All in all, it was a good Halloween for us.

What did you guys dress up as last Halloween?

A Weekend of Happy Experiences at F1 Hotel Manila

October 28, 2014 by MrsC | Patricia Cuyugan 4 Comments

My ABC Loves and I just cannot get enough of each other, as you will notice from my recent blog posts. We just love hanging out so much, that whenever we get the chance to we just go for it. Such was the case when Jane invited the boys and I to spend the weekend at F1 Hotel Manila in BGC together with her family, Joei and Timmy, and a bunch of other bloggers. This was a special invite from the Bossman of KTG, Spanky Enriquez, whom I was looking forward to meeting.

Family photo!
Family photo!

We drove to BGC after a football morning in Alabang, together with Joei who hitched a ride with us. Jane and Boss Spanky welcomed us when we arrived at F1, and we were given our itinerary for the weekend. I was excited to see that my mommy blogger friend, Jackie was spending the weekend at the hotel, too, with her beautiful family.

Let the staycation begin! Thank you for having us this weekend, #F1HotelManila! I love the cutie detail you put into our itinerary ๐Ÿ™‚

Our weekend started off with a short Halloween program with games and giveaways for the kids. There were snacks, refreshments and coffee, too, and the boys happily munched away. Football leaves us all hungry, so we were super looking forward to the yummy food we were going to indulge in during our staycation.

My boys ๐Ÿ™‚
The kiddo really liked the Green Lantern and Hulk cookies!

Next on our itinerary was lunch at the hotel’s F All Day Dining, where we were given a sneak peek at their Christmas buffet. I’ll be writing about our breakfast, lunch and dinner at F1 in a separate post though, so suspense muna.

First order of business, #lunch! The desserts here are really yummers. #F1HotelManila #FAllDayDining #LunchBuffet #FoodTrip #InstaFood #InstaBusog #Latergram A photo posted by MrsC | Patricia Cuyugan (@mrspcuyugan) on Oct 10, 2014 at 11:47pm PDT

Full and sleepy after lunch, we were ready to head to our room. When we walked in and I saw the sofa bed set up in the living room, I got so excited because I knew right away that MrC and I would have our own room for the night! After 8 years of the 3 of us sharing a room, it felt so nice to have a room to call our own, even just for a night.

MrC was happy about having our own room, too!

Truth be told, it felt a little weird, too, not being able to see what the kiddo was doing on his own bed and what he was watching on his own TV. We also stayed with him until he fell asleep, then we moved to our bed after. Hello, separation anxiety! I know for sure that the little boy had fun with our setup, too, though.

I also know that MrC really liked the Batcave-ish color scheme of our room and bathroom

Two beds, two airconditioners, two TV sets, wired and wireless internet connectivity, and a big writing desk. All these made me very happy with our room. I also noticed that there were a lot of power outlets, and that’s something I appreciate. We always seem to have so many gadgets that need to be charged all at the same time, and I’m happy we were able to plug everything in all at the same time. The whole suite was super spacious, and that was such a welcome change from our usual cramped and cluttered room. Plus, there was a Quezo de Bola Cheesecake waiting for us inside! Oh my gosh, way to make me happy!

Missing my usual photobomber in my requisite hotel mirror selfie

Our room was a Fort Suite (PHP 13,100 per night). This room can accommodate a maximum of 2 adults and 2 kids, and includes breakfast. Here’s a tip from our friendly hotel housekeeping guy – when booking, ask for a corner room because these are generally bigger than the middle rooms, with no added cost. Other room types available at F1 Hotel are the City Suite Room (PHP 10,700 per night) and the Deluxe Room (PHP 9,500 per night).

Yes, I am starting my day with cake. Who cares? I’m on #staycation! Loving the #QuezoDeBola #Cheesecake surprise from @f1hotelmanila in our room. ๐Ÿ™‚ #F1HotelManila #familyfun #sundayfunday

A photo posted by MrsC | Patricia Cuyugan (@mrspcuyugan) on Oct 10, 2014 at 4:35pm PDT

MrC and I signed up for massages, but unfortunately I fell asleep before my schedule so I missed out on what would have been the first massage of my life. The husbandry was able to get one, though, and judging by how soundly he slept, it looks like it was a relaxing massage. We actually spent most of our staycation in the room because it was a rainy weekend and the weather was perfect for snuggling and being lazy. And because we got to do just that, the boys and I were happy with our F1 Hotel experience.

If you’re planning to visit F1 Hotel, you may want to avail of their Thrills and Treats promo which runs from October 27 til November 2, and already includes 2 tickets to their Marvel Madness Halloween Party happening on November 1. Sounds like something fun to do with the family!

Thrills & Treats

THANK YOU so very much, Mr. Tony Co and Pau of F1 Hotel for taking care of the boys and I during our visit. Thank you also, Spanky and Jane, for inviting us over for the weekend. We really appreciate it! ๐Ÿ™‚

Crochet Anywhere, a Wedding, and a Makeup Class #TheWeekThatWas

October 25, 2014 by MrsC | Patricia Cuyugan 11 Comments

Confession: I am writing this on a Sunday and backdating it to yesterday. So let’s pretend for a bit that it’s still Saturday, kay? ๐Ÿ™‚

My week started with my usual Sunday morning crochet, coffee and breakfast combo with MrC at Starbucks Ayala Alabang. This quickly became a weekly habit that I’d indulge in during Little MrC’s football class. It was the last of my crochet anywhere Sunday mornings for a while though, because Futbol Funatics goes on break for a couple of weeks. The kiddo is actually still deciding if he wants to enroll in the next camp, so I’m not too sure what our weekends are gonna look like towards the end of this year. As if it won’t be unpredictable enough with all the holiday parties coming up, right?

My relaxing Sunday was followed by a work-filled week, which was okay coz I was on a self-imposed 4-day work week. Friday was reserved for my cousin’s wedding, something that we had all been looking forward to all year. If my count is right, we are 19 cousins on the delos Santos side of my family, and as each of us is starting to get married and have kids our family is steadily growing. The more we are, the more fun it becomes, and we are all very happy and excited to have Monica in our family now.

Congrats, Chab and Mon!
Congrats, Mon and Chab! Babies next, guys!

Saturday was spent with my ABC Loves, plus a couple of other blogger friends from the south. My old friend Tina offered to teach us how to apply makeup on ourselves, and it was so much fun playing with her brushes and palettes! She brought a lot of fun toys to our small makeup class (as in 2 suitcases worth of makeup!), making my teeny tiny box of makeup look so small and lacking. Must go shopping soon. Lol!

My friend @itstyn is teaching our Alabang blogger group how to apply makeup today! #MakeupByTina A photo posted by MrsC | Patricia Cuyugan (@mrspcuyugan) on Oct 10, 2014 at 10:29pm PDT

I shared a few tips and tricks I learned from the class on my Instagram page, along with the silliest looking photos of myself doing makeup. Also gonna be writing about the class soon. Oh, and I can’t wait to share my wedding hair, makeup and gown from Chab and Mon’s wedding with you guys, too! I rarely write makeup and fashion posts, but I really felt so pretty that day that I just have to write. #GGSS hahaha.

Okay that’s all for now. Here’s hoping we all have an amazing next week!

Bend Accessories

October 22, 2014 by MrsC | Patricia Cuyugan 8 Comments

Okay, technically I didn’t find Bend Accessories at a bazaar. The owner’s sister is a work at home mom and they sent me a couple of bracelets and a nice personalized keychain a few weeks ago. But I did finally meet Francine, the owner and creator of these wonderful accessories at the Cuenca Bazaar (sorry, don’t ask me which one it was, they are all just “Cuenca Bazaars” to me) one Sunday.

LOVE my new arm candy and personalized key ring from @bendaccessories!!!! Diba it’s all so ME? ๐Ÿ™‚ Thank you for sending these to me, Francine and Faith! #Accessories #BendAccessories #ArmCandy #Bracelets #Pink

I was walking around, waiting for the little boy’s soccer game to end. I remember I was alone because that was the day after MrC’s out of town bachelor party extravaganza, and so we left him at home to catch some extra Z’s. I saw the familiar Multifunctional Accessory Kit on display, and of course I just had to introduce myself to the unsuspecting Francine.

Spotted at the #AAV Cuenca #Bazaar today: Francine and her super pretty @bend_accessories! Remember the #ArmCandy I posted a few days ago? She made them! Go check out her booth for lovely handmade accessories in the cutest colors. #BendAccessories #Handmade #kikay #Accessories #Bracelet #Bangles A photo posted by MrsC | Patricia Cuyugan (@mrspcuyugan) on Oct 10, 2014 at 8:08pm PDT

She and I talked for a pretty long time. I was excited to find out that she’s from Muntinlupa, and she makes everything herself by hand. I’ve already promised my sisters-in-law that I will get them Multifunctional Accessory Kits also, and I want to get more colors for myself. I swear, they are so nice and colorful, and easy to wear and versatile. Super perfect for someone like me who rarely accessorizes! Promise, look at my photos and you’ll see that I hardly have any bling on. These, I really like, though. They are so nice that I got a lot of compliments on my arm candy when I (finally) wore it last week at The Urban Food Collective!

Yellow, white and pink at @tufcph #theurbanfoodcollective today! Maxi dresses make the best weekend outfits. Got lotsa compliments, too, on my @bend_accessories arm candy, which matched my bag perfectly! ๐Ÿ™‚ #ootd #plussize

Everything that Francine sells is super inexpensive, too. The Multifunctional Kit is PHP300. Keychains go for PHP50 – PHP100 depending on the design or engraving. She can also add charms for an additional PHP20 each. The Stretch Bracelets are only PHP130 – PHP180 each. All so affordable, and perfect to give out as Christmas gifts. Comes in a nice box with ribbon, too. See?

THANK YOU, Francine and Faith for sending me these kikay goodies. I super appreciate it, and I really, really love them! Will be sending you my orders soon! ๐Ÿ™‚

Royal Caribbean, Jamaican Me Hungry!

October 21, 2014 by MrsC | Patricia Cuyugan 24 Comments

I know, my post title is really baduy. Indulge me. This is the first time in 7 days that I’ve actually found the time to blog. That’s the excitement talking.

This guy was excited to be at Royal Carribean
This guy was excited to be at Royal Carribean

Anyway, in search of suits to wear to an upcoming wedding, the boys and I decided to check out Market Market. I’m not sure what we thought we were gonna find there, but I did know that we were gonna drop by Royal Caribbean Jamaican Patties to grab a bite. I’d had an outstanding invitation from them for months to come over, and we finally got to do it. Yay!

Aha! I can have these delivered!

We normally visit that other Jamaican place just because they have branches in all of our favorite hangouts. I was looking forward to trying the different flavors of Royal Caribbean for a change. It’s too bad that my stomach was iffy because we’d been eating nonstop that weekend, otherwise I would have tasted more than one pattie. And yes, there were a lot of options to choose from.

Look, healthier chicken, tuna and vegetable patties!

I was surprised to see baked macaroni and cookies on the menu. We thought about ordering these, but changed our minds at the last minute. We ended choosing patties with our favorite fillings, plus drinks. Part of me feels that I should have tried something new, but I just don’t see how you can not eat Jamaican patties at a Jamaican pattie store. Makes sense?

Check out the RC Jamaican Patties Menu

MrC always chooses something spicy, while the little boy picks something with cheese. The husbandry had a Beef Jerky Pattie (PHP45) for his first round (yes, he had more than one), plus a Coke. The kiddo ordered the Cheeze Burst Supreme (PHP58) and a Mango Shake (PHP58). They both wanted more after they gobbled down their patties, but we managed to convince the kiddo to order dessert instead. MrC, on the other hand, went for round two with a Cheese Burst Royale (PHP58).

Of course I took a bite out of everyone’s orders. The Beef Jerky was nice and spicy, and I honestly don’t know how MrC could keep adding hot sauce with every bite. Between the two Cheese Burst flavors, I prefer the Supreme because I like my patties with tomato sauce in them.

Big and Little MrC are happy!

I ordered the Beef Supreme (PHP45), which had tomato sauce and wasn’t spicy. This, in my opinion, needed hot sauce to make each bite more exciting. It’s a good thing Royal Caribbean gave us a nice big squeeze bottle full of their tangy, spicy sauce. So yummy, and it all went very well with my Ceylon Tea Slushie (PHP58), which actually helped calm my turbulent tummy.

This sleepy face was the result of a night of fun at 12 Monkeys with the ABC

Since the kiddo really wanted to eat some more, he and MrC crossed the hallway to buy some mini donuts. I love the smell of these little fried treats. They remind me so much of recess time at Zobel! I found these ones too sweet though, but I think it might just be the flavor that the boys chose. I still prefer my mini donuts simply dusted with sugar.

Finally full and satisfied!

RC Jamaican Patties would make great movie snacks, and I can’t believe I never thought to buy some to bring into the theater before. The shop is conveniently located right where the cinemas are at Market Market, so go and grab some for your next movie date. And don’t forget the Ceylon Tea, coz that’s really good, too.

THANK YOU Royal Caribbean for the treat! The boys and I really enjoyed ourselves!
