Black is My New Black

January 18, 2013 by MrsC | Patricia Cuyugan 2 Comments

I need to invest in good black blouses and dresses. I do script writing for events, and black is the official uniform color when you’re in this line of work. It’s been a while since I’ve been on the production side of life, and all my black stuff from way back when (as in, pre-pregnancy days) obviously no longer fit me. They also no longer suit me. I was a college student back then, and now I’m about to be a 30-year old, so yeah, I’d probably look ridiculous if I dressed the same way.

Over the years, I’ve opted for brighter, more fun colors and prints. Figuring out what to wear to work these days is quite a nightmare. But it shouldn’t be! Decent black pieces should be a staple in everyone’s closets after all. Right? Which leads me to believe that I’ve been doing this whole outfit thing wrong. Or maybe, just maybe, since I’m crossing over to the 30-something age group, I’m starting to realize that my closet does need an overhaul.

I remember a conversation I had with a marketing head from one of the events I did last December. She was showing me some photos of jewelry she was ordering from abroad, and I told her that I wasn’t really much of a jewelry person. She said it’s likely because I’m still in my 20’s, and things will change when I hit my 30’s. If this is true, then I suppose my makeup and jewelry collection is in for a major upgrade alongside my closet. Sounds expensive. But I think it’s something that should be done.

So anyway, I am technically still in my 20’s, and will be for a few more days. Sharing what I wore to work yesterday, one of my last events as a 20-something.

  • Glasses: Firmoo (I won these from my friend Joei’s blog contest last year)
  • Black Shrug: Cuenca Bazaar
  • Black Top: Discreet (A gift from my in-laws. It’s a tad too big in the armhole area and bust area, so things tend to fall out. That’s why I wear a spaghetti strap top under it.)
  • Jeans: Moda Plus (The ever-reliable. I’m so sad they closed their Festival Mall Branch)
  • Pretty Pink Platform Shoes: Coleslaw (A cutie local brand from Laguna. I bought these when we visited Isdaan two years ago.)
  • Bag: Coach
  • Chunky Necklace: A gift from an aunt last Christmas. I think it’s Forever21.
  • Makeup: Colour Collection BB Cream, Face Shop black eyeliner and Revlon Lipstick in Cherries in the Snow (my current favorite!)
Ok, I need to practice posing. And it seems like all the Mango Bravo I've been eating went straight to my cheeks. Waaah!

I think it’s time I go on a diet.

Bag Love

December 21, 2012 by MrsC | Patricia Cuyugan 2 Comments

I’ve been discovering a lot of great local designers lately. It’s either this new generation of entrepreneurs is really super talented, or I’m a late bloomer as far as style and trends are concerned, and it’s only now that I’m starting to take notice. It all began with one Erzullie dress. If you’ll notice, I’ve mentioned them in my first and second Fashion Friday posts so far. That’s how much I love the outfit I bought from them at the Global Pinoy Bazaar last month.

Anyway, going back…

Finding a new, local, fabulous plus size designer is absolutely wonderful. Finding a new, local, fabulous bag designer is even sweeter. I just love bags! Here’s an added perk – she lives in my house. Yup, my baby sister has finally started on the road to realizing her lifelong dream of becoming a bag designer. Her first customer? Ever supportive ate (big sister), of course! And perfect timing too, the Longchamp bag I got myself last Christmas is all ratty and tattered already. Yes, I tend to abuse my bags.

So right when I decided it was time to get a new bag, a pretty one waltzed its way into our house! It’s the perfect size too! My laptop sleeve fits snugly in it with room for all of my other stuff.

Pretty, GIANT suede bag. You like?

The Blogger To WordPress Chronicles – The First Three Days

December 20, 2012 by MrsC | Patricia Cuyugan 10 Comments

If you will notice, my hyperlinks are not working and my blog is not functioning 100%. That’s because I’m choosing to be stubborn about accomplishing my migration from Blogger to WordPress all on my own. Well, not entirely on my own since I keep asking for help from my techie mom friends. I have to make special mention of The Techie Mom who has been really helpful in answering all my questions day and night. Like I said on my very first post here, please bear with me if things look out of place and if there are some stuff that aren’t working right. I’m fixing things, slowly but surely! Wedding Style

December 14, 2012 by MrsC | Patricia Cuyugan 1 Comment

I got invited to a lot of weddings this year. Then again, they weren’t as many as some of my friends’ wedding invites, but that’s just because a lot of my super close friends and my relatives have yet to tie the knot. Anyway, since my Erzullie dress from Jonnah’s wedding was such a hit, I thought I’d do a retrospective Fashion Friday this week of the dresses I wore to the other three weddings I went to this year. It’s also been an uneventful week and I’ve basically been dressing in boring clothes, so there’s nothing new to share. Lol.

Wedding Flashback #1: Joyce & Mark
Pacific Waves Resort, Bulacan
February 18, 2012
Dress with matching clutch: Kate Torralba; Shoes: Payless (Same shoes I wore with the Erzullie dress, and at my own wedding. Sulit!)
I don’t actually have a full-body photo of this dress from the wedding, but I do have a few shots of it in the KT dressing room from the day I bought in in 2008.

At Joyce’s Wedding
Unearthed from my Multiply account. Don’t I look exactly the same?

A Kiddie Party, A Wedding, and A Coffee Shop Meeting

December 7, 2012 by MrsC | Patricia Cuyugan 5 Comments

In case you’re wondering, I’m doing Fashion Friday in an attempt to encourage myself to look my best, and not give in to my Frumpy Mommy tendencies! Yes, I do tend to dress grungy sometimes, as you can read in one of my previous posts. The idea of doing a Fashion Friday post was actually inspired by this post from Topaz Horizon.

So, without further ado, here are my top three looks of the week.

1. A Kiddie Party
Manika’s 2nd Birthday Party
McDonald’s Venice Piazza Mall, McKinley
December 1, 2012
Blouse: Cotton On, Makeup: Colour Collection
Sorry, I forgot to take a photo of the whole outfit. I wore black pants and platform shoes with this top. LOL Fashion Friday Fail! Anyway, that’s Me and Mr C with the little boy and my niece, Manika.

Comfy Mommy Look

2. A Wedding
Jonnah & Emmans’ Wedding
UST Church, Espana
December 2, 2012
Dress: Erzullie, Shoes: Payless, Clutch: Celine, Makeup: Colour Collection, Jewelry: From my relatives

My Pretty Pink Princess look!
3. A Coffee Shop Meeting
Meeting with my Executive Producer for an upcoming event
Meeting at Starbucks, Alabang Town Center; Photograph taken at home
December 7, 2012
Jeans: Moda Plus, Top: Marikina Tiangge, Shrug: Cuenca Bazaar, Shoes (not in photo, leopard-print ballet flats): Greenhills

Disclaimer: I took this photo myself with a camera on self timer. That’s why it looks so awkward!

What do you guys think of my first Fashion Friday post? Now I know I really should make sure I have someone take my photo with my own camera! This took A LOT of effort though, so show me some love! =P

Much love and happiness,

{Event} Yes Mommy: How to Talk so your Child will Listen and Understand

December 6, 2012 by MrsC | Patricia Cuyugan Leave a Comment

Communication is essential in any relationship. It would obviously be very difficult to understand each other and live harmoniously together is if we aren’t able to effectively relay to others what it is we want to say. One of the most difficult things to do is to effectively talk to your young children in a way that they will surely understand and listen. Many mommies struggle with this challenge. I know I have, and still do, even though my child is now six years old and has amazing comprehension skills. I guess sometimes it’s not just the listener, but also the person speaking who should learn to adjust in order to be able to ensure that his or her message is clear.

The good news is, Optimommy and Manila Workshops have put together a one-day workshop to address this issue, and teach parents how to communicate effectively with their children. The workshop is called “Yes Mommy: How to Talk so your Child will Listen and Understand”

About the Yes Mommy Workshop
At “Yes Mommy” we’ll talk about practical tips and tools to build a foundation of good communication with our young children. Topics include:

  • Self Talk for Mommies: Why positive communication begins with you
  • How to understand your child’s personality
  • How to adjust your communication style based on your child’s personality
  • The Three Elements of Positive Communication: Crucial factors to encourage your children to listen and understand
  • How to say “no” by saying “yes”

“Yes Mommy” is called a workshop. But Optimommy, Jayme, sees it as really more of a sharing session where moms can connect with other moms, you can feel safe to share what we know and don’t know, and you can have comfort knowing that we are not alone in this parenting journey. After “Yes Mommy”, you ca expect to gain:

  • Tools to start your day with calmness and intention
  • Patience in dealing with your children
  • Resources to communicate persuasively
  • A network of like minded moms who can give encouragement and support
