Date Night at The Bellevue

March 10, 2012 by MrsC | Patricia Cuyugan Leave a Comment

It’s rare that my husband and I get to go out on dates, so we make sure to do something nice every time an opportunity comes around.

February’s date night fell on the eve of my birthday, and since it was an extra special cause to celebrate, we decided to use the buffet dinner gift certificates at Cafe d’Asie that we received from some friends as a wedding gift. We chose a good time to use the GC’s, the restaurant offered a free glass of wine with every buffet dinner as their promo for February. A good glass of wine plus a fabulous cheese platter sounds like a spectacular plan to me!

Round1: Pumpkin Soup with Croutons and Bacon Bits
Round1: Shrimp Cocktail
Round1: Sushi & Sashimi

I’m pretty sure I enjoyed the appetizers more than the main dishes, as I usually do. I love pica-pica food, and so I always load up on starters when I go to these buffet places. Plus, I wasn’t all that into the available viands that day.

Round2: Main Dishes
Among the main dishes, I enjoyed the chicken in mango sauce best. The potato salad and the turkey were alright too. The rest, I can’t even remember. I’ll be honest, the food that night at The Bellevue wasn’t as good as I remembered it to be. Then again, the last time I was there they were offering steaks grilled the way you want them. It’s pretty hard to top that.
Round3: Cold Cuts, Cheeses and Crackers – The highlight of my evening
Meanwhile, Mr C was enjoying his meal too

Then came my favorite part of the meal, dessert. Mr C got a plateful of assorted pastries, and I had a bit of strawberry mousse and assorted chocolates, which I happily devoured before realizing I’d forgotten to take photos.

Sweet treats

While I was hoping for a little bit more as far as the food was concerned, I was still glad to have been able to spend the evening with my husband. Overall, with the ambiance plus the wine, cheeses and chocolates (and the fact that it was all FREE) was enough to make this a lovely evening.

New Week, New Outlook.

March 7, 2012 by MrsC | Patricia Cuyugan Leave a Comment

This week, I got a glimpse into what life would be as a stay at home mom. I must say, if someone told me five years ago that I had to quit working and start doing this, I’d have probably thrown a hissy fit. Back then, work was all I knew. I was a new mom who was stuck at home throughout pregnancy and my son’s first year. I felt helpless, trapped, and unfulfilled. Fast forward to today, and here I am, missing work, manning the fort, while my mom takes care of my grandfather who’s in the hospital for some procedures. I never thought that running a household would be this tiring. And I honestly am still pretty clueless as to what I will be serving my family for dinner. But I really am having fun, and I’m enjoying my time with my little guy. I’m glad I get to bring him to school and pick him up after, and that we do homework in the afternoon instead of after dinner so we have time to watch cartoons before bed. I get to bake nice cupcakes and prepare home cooked meals for us. If I had a little more time, I’d probably start cleaning our room.

It’s pretty difficult though that I’m missing so many days of work. When I’m at the office I pretty much need to catch up on everything I’ve set aside. Plus I don’t get any pay on my absent days because my leave credits aren’t coming in til April when I hit the one year mark with my current employer. And while this whole stay at home thing is really looking good to me at the moment, I must say that money will be a bit of a concern if we were to rely solely on the Husband’s income. Meaning, we’ll need to start lessening our expenses, which to me sounds rather heartbreaking.  Doable, but heartbreaking.

Then again, there’s always that small window of hope, the opportunity to freelance or put up a small home business. It makes me nervous though, the thought of not having my own steady, monthly income. On the other hand, doesn’t every mom dream of having all the time in the world to spend with their kids, being able to run their households themselves, being able to be a true wife and mom? That is the very reason why I moved to a job close to home, to buy myself that extra time. Of course, the grass is always greener on the other side of the fence, and now that I’ve already gotten that job that’s close to home, this window opened up and let me peek into the life of a work at home mom (I say work at home because I don’t think I can survive without at least trying to earn a little extra money to add to our household income). Ugh. So many things to wonder about on all of a sudden.

In the meantime, I’ve just decided that we’ll be having spaghetti for dinner, and I should take the ground beef out of the freezer already if I want it to thaw on time. Postponing my pondering for another day.

Razorback for my Birthday!

March 1, 2012 by MrsC | Patricia Cuyugan 2 Comments

Celebrated my birthday the best way I know how, at a bar gig with one of my favorite bands on Earth.

When I found out that Razorback would be playing in SanMig Alabang, I asked the husband and best man to reserve a table for us right away. My brother and his girlfriend joined us as well, along with a couple of my best friends.

As I’d expected, the night turned out to be a reunion of sorts, and I’m really happy I got to spend time with some good friends whom I’d not seen in a while.

With my best friend in the whole world!

Me and the only remaining 28 year old in our group.

Pao, Mars, Me – Together in rakenrol since 2004!

A lot of people get surprised when they find out that I actually have some friends in the music scene. I had the privilege of meeting most of them at my first job, where I learned the ins and outs of organizing concerts and music events. I have such fond memories of those days, and I’m happy and proud to say that I worked with the best. I learned from some of the greatest in the industry.

Mr C and I with Kevin Roy

With my former big boss, and the best bassist in Manila, Louie Talan

I totally enjoyed the show, and I’m glad that Razorback played my faves Nakaturo Sa’yo and Diwata. Bonus feature, my forever crush Basti Artadi sang a few songs too, so I got to play fangirl for a night.

Mr C!

Not looking at the cam hehehe!

Wolfgang + Razorback

Of course I had to get everything on video

Razorback, still as good as I remember!

Highlight of the evening – I actually dared Mari to take a photo of Basti holding up a sign that says HAPPY BIRTHDAY PATTY if he happened to be at the gig. Didn’t think she’d actually do it (with a little help from Pao and Mr C)!

I’m still unable to act like a grownup in front of this guy hahaha!

I totally missed this. Thanks, guys, for a fun birthday!

My Thai + Pho Hoa

February 22, 2012 by MrsC | Patricia Cuyugan 10 Comments

Last Sunday was another one of my working rest days. I dragged my sister Rocky to the mall with me since she didn’t have anything planned anyway.

After walking around for a bit and having new glasses made, we decided to have lunch at the mall’s newly opened Pho Hoa + My Thai + Jack’s Loft restaurant. It was an easy choice since Rocky was instantly sold on the idea of having Thai Milk Tea with lunch. I’m actually not sure how she managed to finish a whole glass of milk tea, plus half of mine. It was really yummy, but super heavy!

Thai Milk Tea

We shared a plate of Pad See Ew noodles, which was good. We also ordered Kung Pao Chicken. Both dishes were really yummy, and the servings were big enough to share. It’s a good thing we decided to wait for our meal to arrive before deciding to order anything more, otherwise we wouldn’t have been able to finish our food. To think, the waiter told us that the servings were good for one person only. All in all, our meal cost just a little over PHP600.00, which is not bad by my standards.

Yum yum yummy!

We enjoyed our lunch so much that we missed a photo op with The Lorax that we were both looking forward to.

I was hoping to try some of the yummy cakes on display at the Jack’s Loft side of the restaurant, but I was already stuffed by the time we cleaned our plates off. At least I have something to look forward to on my next visit.

I will definitely come back to this pink, green, black and white themed restaurant real soon. And next time I will make sure to leave room for dessert.

Wedding Bells: Joycee + Mark!

February 20, 2012 by MrsC | Patricia Cuyugan 1 Comment

My friend Joyce and her ex-boyfriend turned husband Mark proved yesterday that love really is sweeter the second time around. Yes, I’m still on a wedding high.

I wish I had better photos but we were seated at the back most of the time, and this was the best that the zoom on Mr C’s digicam could do.

Reciting their vows
You may now kiss the bride
I’m so happy we made it to the church.
Hi Joycee, I see you too!
First timer. Make a wish!
Waiting for the bride and groom to come out.
Converted to B&W coz the photo’s over exposed.
Happy newlyweds.
Joyce.
Mark.
Me.
At the reception.
Silly.

So happy we got to be there on Joyce & Mark’s special day!
