Honeymooners For A Day

November 26, 2011 by MrsC | Patricia Cuyugan 4 Comments

My parents-in-law treated Mr C and I to an overnight stay at Sofitel as a wedding gift. Lucky for us, this was about a week before the big storm that sank Spiral, and we were able to enjoy a nice peaceful mini honeymoon, all smiley and happy as newlyweds should be. Sofitel has always been one of my favorite hotels in Manila with it’s lovely view, super soft pillows, fluffy blankets and yummy food.

We came prepared with some leftover wine from the reception and a basket of goodies given to us by my lovely friends at Smart.

My new favorite budget-friendly red wine
Yummy goodie basket from Bellevue

I personally love hotels, and a staycation was exactly what we needed after our busy year of planning. We basically ate a lot, slept a lot, swam a little, ate some more and had quite a few drinks during our stay. It was such a fun getaway, although short and pretty bitin. It’s been almost three months since the wedding, and I really hope we get to do something like this again soon.

Judging from the photos, it looks like Mr C enjoyed hotel living as much as I did!

Elevator happy dance!

It was a bit rainy that weekend, but we managed to catch some sun in the afternoon right before checking out.

One of my favorite parts of Sofitel – the gardens overlooking Manila Bay
Congratulations to us! Yay!
Two rings + my wedding nail art. I am OFFICIALLY MrsC!

Proud Pre-shooler’s Mama

November 15, 2011 by MrsC | Patricia Cuyugan 1 Comment

Proud pre-shooler’s mama. That would be me. Nothing makes me happier than the fact that my five-year old is doing well in class and enjoying school. I’m so proud of him for being well-rounded, friendly, quick to learn and eager to participate.

Homework has become a daily family activity, and MrC and I enjoy looking through the seatworks, projects, activity sheets and exam papers that the teachers send us. Yesterday’s batch of accomplished school works included this:

Tristan: I want to be a fire fighter

I love how he tried to spell out the words, writing them out based on how the strewn together letters sound to him. We made sure to let him know that we are proud of his effort, and that he should always keep trying because that is the best way to learn.

I’m so proud of my kiddo, and I’m glad we decided to really invest in his schooling. I always tell soon to be parents, and soon to be parents of preschoolers that this is one thing they should really consider spending on. Education should be a priority, and I’m happy that we made it one of ours.

A Lesson in Parenting From My 5-Year Old

October 24, 2011 by MrsC | Patricia Cuyugan 2 Comments

As things would have it, my little boy taught me a thing or two about parenting one Sunday night. He and I had spent three full days together at home, something completely out of the ordinary given his daily classes and my erratic work schedule. But there we were, on the last stretch of our long weekend together, tired and weary. Or at least I was feeling tired and weary. He, on the other hand, always the eternal bundle of energy, had a lot of questions he still had to ask, and a lot of things he still wanted to do. Meanwhile, my patience was running low and I just wanted to turn out the lights and get some peace and quiet.

Just when I thought I could take no more, he says, “I wish you could stay home again tomorrow mommy. Because I still want to stay with you and be with you and hug you and kiss you.”

And at that moment I felt a little pinch of guilt in my chest for having gotten annoyed with my five-year old son.

My Baby and Me

He asked me to get his favorite pillow, which he had forgotten in his grandparents’ room. As tired and weary as I was, I just had to get up and do that one favor for the little guy because that’s just how it is. When you’re a parent, you need to learn to be the bigger person because at the end of the day, you ARE the bigger person. At the end of the day, your kid needs you. He asks questions because he wants to learn from you. He bugs you about doing so many things simply because he wants to do them with you. At the end of the day, you should remember to be thankful that he wants his days and nights to revolve around the time you spend together.

I told him I had to go back to work tomorrow, but I promised to find a way to spend another long weekend with him. He said he wanted me to stay for five days next time. Of course I told him I’d try. Luckily his dad remembered that he will be home for the coming long weekend, and that he will get to spend five whole days with the the little boy. He hugged his dad tight when he found out.

I got up to go to my parents’ room to fetch the little guy’s pillow and his dad whispers to me that the kiddo was counting. I looked over at him and saw him with his arms outstretched, bending his fingers as he counted. And I reminded myself that he was just a kid. He’s such a smart one that I forget just how little he is, and I have to check myself when I realize that sometimes I expect too much from him.

He’s growing up so fast. I should remember to enjoy the moments when he just wants to be a kid with me. Those times when he just wants me to act like a kid with him. He looked so cute counting on his little fingers all the days he would be spending with his mommy and daddy. Days that I wish would just last forever.

Report Card Day!

October 7, 2011 by MrsC | Patricia Cuyugan Leave a Comment

I love days like today when I get to perform mommy duties. Since I have ingress at the mall tonight, I was able to change to closing shift and free up my morning to pick up Tristan’s report card from school. I’m really happy that I was able to do that because it’s the Kiddo’s first report card in big school, and I really wanted to hear his teacher’s feedback on his performance and behavior. I was the second parent from his class to arrive, proof that I really was excited. I’m NEVER early!

While waiting for the first mommy to finish her consultation, I took a look at the kids’ displayed projects and saw Tristan and his dad’s photo on the reading board.

When It was finally my turn to speak with Teacher Lou, I was so happy to hear that Tristan has been doing exceptionally well in school. He has excellent grades and behavior in class, is friends with everyone, and helps out his teacher too. I’m so proud of him! I’m proud of Bong and myself as well, because it means were doing OK in the parenting department.

Now to figure out what would be a nice prize for the Kiddo…
