The Story:

Eric and Laura met through match.com and had their first date at Guthrie’s Tavern in Chicago. On their first date, Eric trounced Laura in a game of Scrabble and Laura’s pager went off within the first five minutes of the date. Despite these warning signs, they fell in love shortly thereafter and the rest is history. Since their first date involved Scrabble – and their relationship has involved more than a few other heated Scrabble games since then – Eric proposed during a Scrabble game in Playa del Carmen, Mexico. On the first morning of their vacation, Eric planted the ring inside the tile bag, which Laura pulled out just after playing the word “amen” (seriously!). After much joy and “yeses” and excitement and distraction, they resumed the game three days later. Laura fairly and squarely won the game.

The couple married under a beautiful old tree at the Carolina Inn in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. The cocktail hour was held on the classic Southern veranda at the Inn and the reception followed in The Hill Ballroom.  When it was Laura’s sister’s (also her maid of honor) time to toast, she decided to create card-board renditions of Laura and Eric’s match.com profiles! Hint: Laura is a gynecologist and Eric is a psychologist.
