How Wedding Planners are Crucial to Your Budget

Hey Everybody! Welcome to the April 2016 edition of Bliss Buzz. My name is Sam and this is my monthly video where I talk about what is going on with me and I give some shout outs to my favorite wedding and event creative and I give some tips to couples who are planning their wedding. So welcome for those of you who are new to Bliss Buzz!

Alright. So what’s going on with me this month? This month I changed my hair. So for those of you who didn’t know I’ve been wearing weave for about two years. Yeah. People were like I thought that was your hair? Yeah, no. This is my hair! And I decided to actually color it, which I’ve never done before, so that’s new. I’m trying to usher spring in here into Chicago – like light and bright and new and different with my hair. So this is two years of my hair growing without any product in it and it’s huge and humongous. For those of you who are my Facebook friends really, really saw how humongous it can be. So that’s what’s new with me. We’re getting into the thick of wedding season this month, with our first wedding being with Sammy and Michael. Yay! On April 30th in downtown Chicago. So I’m definitely looking forward to my friends getting married.

And let’s see. Let’s get into the tips. And when I give the tips I’ll shoutouts some of my favorite wedding and event creatives. So there has been a recent survey done by The Knot.com , and in that survey it said that Chicago is the second most expensive city to host your wedding – right behind Manhattan at about $60K. And I know that number scares a lot of you, but at the end of the day, it’s one of those things where, you know what? It is what it is. Maybe not so much for the suburbs, I’m not sure, because I focus on city weddings, but that’s definitely a realistic budget for a city wedding.

So what I wanted to talk through this month was, why having a planner is going to help you through sticker shock.

  • 1. A Good Planner is Always in the Know

My friend Matt Morgan works with Blue Plate Catering. Congratulations on the new job Matt! I actually ran into him today.

Today where I’m at – we’re actually going to do a little sidebar — Maggie Daley Park. They have an event space, so I’m actually standing on the lawn where they do ceremony and reception. They can do up to 600 people here, and I think its going to be really gorgeous. Most people know that Millennium Park is my favorite place in the city. I think Maggie Daley Park is going to be a close second. This is such an awesome place to host your event. So if you’re still looking for your venue, you should definitely consider this space – I’m in love with it.

So that’s my first point, that a good planner wants to be in the know. Matt called me a social guru today, because I’m typically out and about meeting people. I always want to know what is new in the city. So a good planner is going to do that and give you some alternatives to make sure you maximize your $60K budget.

  • 2. Partnerships is Great People

There are so many planners, so many photographers, so much of everything in Chicago because we’re a major city. So if you work with a planner, we’re going to be able to give you the best options for the best creative that can fit into your budget and what you’re going for. Versus you blindly going out on some of these websites or flipping through magazines, and things of that nature, we’re the experts. We’re already here, we already have our rolodex – so use it!

  • 3. We’re a Constant

You know, venues open and close in Chicago, all the time. People change jobs, all the time. It’s like in every networking thing I go to there’s somebody who is like, “Oh, I’m with so and so now and I was with so and so last week”. So your planner is going to be your constant and going to be the one that makes the call that, unfortunately, if your venue shuts down, we’re going to make all calls to our network and say “hey my client lost their venue and we need a spot on this day.” Then within probably ten minutes to an hour we’re going to have some options for you because we have a network. So just keep that in mind when working with a planner. We’re the experts, we’re here for you.

So that’s it for the month. Don’t let that $60K scare you. Bye guys and I’ll talk to you next month.
