July 2016: Bliss Buzz – Trending for Weddings

Hey everybody welcome to the July 2016 edition of Bliss Buzz. For those of you who are new, welcome! My name is Sam and I’m the owner of Bliss by Sam wedding and events, but this month I’m actually sitting in the office of Candice who owns aDORAble designs by Candice. She does stationary and this morning we were working for hours for this destination wedding that we’re getting ready to do here in January. So, I’m taping from her space. It is so lovely. And this is actually one of the designs she did for us for a styled shoot she did for us. I don’t know if you can see it that great in the video. She does amazing work so I’m going to send the link for her company in the video as well.

But this is my monthly video where I talk about what’s going on with me and I give tips to couples that are planning their weddings. So let’s jump into it and talk about what’s going on with me. This week I just got back from the annual conference for NACE — National Association for Catering and Events — and what they do is pretty much talk about what’s hot and what’s not in the industry. So that’s what I’m going to talk about this month. Let’s just jump right into it! And I have my little thing right here with my notes, because I have so many notes! So let’s go.

IN: Liquid Nitrogen – I’m really excited because it makes a great presentation. You can use it on sorbet bars, ice cream bars, and it’s pretty much ‘fog’ around your food and events. There is actually a chef who has a chocolate cake that he does and when the guest cuts into it fog or smoke comes out. It’s a really cool concept. So ask your caterer about that.

OUT: Mashed Potato Bars

IN: French Fry Bars – In the potato family these are in and could be really nice. There are all types of French fries you can use for the late night snacks that people like to do at the end of weddings. So keep that in mind.

OUT: Signature Drinks

IN: Tasting Flight – Whether it is wine or whisky you can put a combination of two or three things that you want people to taste and do a tasting flight for cocktail hour. So that’s fun!

IN: Frozen Drinks – For you millennials, apparently you are back into frozen drinks. Now here’s the thing, I like a good frozen drink, but all night? Aren’t you all concerned about brain freeze? But, you know what? It’s okay. If you want it, I’m here to give it to you. So keep that in mind.

OUT: Mason Jars – Throw them away. Done with those.

OUT: Candy Bars – Don’t even think about saying what up. Done with those too.

And so, that is kind of what is in and out now. I’m just sitting here looking at my notes. I want to make sure I tell you guys everything. Oh!

IN: Guest Experience – For entertainment, don’t forget, try to do something that is more of an experience. If you go to my Facebook page, you’ll see pretty much these LED robots (and I know it sounds crazy), but go to the page and check them out. [The company featured is Light up the Night] They dance along to the music to your DJ and it’s a really, really cool concept. So just keep guest experience in mind too when you’re thinking about what’s in and out for weddings.
