Proceed with Caution in DIY Wedding Planning
Hey everybody! Welcome to the June 2016 Edition of Bliss Buzz. For those of you who are new, welcome! This is my monthly video where I talk about what’s going on with me and I give tips to couples that are planning their weddings.
So what’s going on with me? It is the first day of summer and I’m on the Spirit of Chicago, and it is one of the many boat and yachts you can rent out to have your ceremony and wedding reception. So they hosted a lot of meeting planners, wedding planners, and team building leaders and we had an amazing dinner and open bar. And the food was really, really, really good. Kind of a side bar, to sometimes think outside of the box if you’re looking for a reception “venue”- they don’t always have to have four walls. Sometimes you can be in the open lake and it’s pretty, pretty amazing!
This month, for my tips for couples, I want to talk to those of you who are considering do-it-yourself. I know it’s been a trend for a long time, and to be honest, I’m over it. So I guess this is a little of a rant. My wedding professional friends and I have been talking about this here lately.
- 1. If you are Not Creative Now, your Wedding Is Not a Good Time to Start
You know, just be careful, if you’re not a really creative or crafty bride before your wedding, now is probably not a good time to start. That’s all I’m saying. You know the instructions, and it always looks easy on Pinterest and in Better Homes and Gardens and all these magazines you see. And you’re like sure, I can make a 1,000 of these and then you start doing it and they start looking like crap. So you know, just kinda keep that in mind.
- 2. Are you the Hands-On Type?
How crafty are you? Or rather, how hands-on are you in your own life now? Do you renovate your own house by going to classes at Home Depot? Do you do your own plumbing? You know, do you usually hire professionals for important things in your life? So you’re going to want to hire professionals for one of the most important days in your life. Okay? So just keep that in mind.
- 3. Do you Have the Time?
When it’s really time to do those projects – probably the week of your wedding – do you really want to be doing that? Or do you want to be spending time with your family and friends? Probably spending time with your family and friends.
And please, unless it is the right planner, don’t even think about asking Samantha from Bliss by Sam about putting anything together. I tell people right away – I am not Martha Stewart. Now Sawyer on the other hand might some things together for you because he loves that kind of stuff. Me? Nah ah. But he will be charging you extra. Alright?
So that’s my little rant for June. For those of you who it is your first time watching a video, I sware, I don’t normally rant, I usually give like really good tips. But, that’s June. So you guys have a great start to your summer and I’ll talk to you next month.
