Before I begin, I want to make two things clear: (1) I am not “going on a diet”, and (2) I am not doing this so that I won’t be fat anymore.
Let me explain.
I am not going on a diet. What I intend to do is ease myself into a healthier lifestyle. This involves making better food choices and following the right proportions. It doesn’t mean that I am quitting carbs, because that would just make me miserable. In fact, I’m not quitting anything. I will continue to eat sweets, junk food, and fast food even, but in moderation. That means I can have the occasional bottle of beer or can of soda if I want to. Because really, nothing is more depressing than being on the beach and not being able to open a nice cold bottle of San Mig or Coke. Yes?
I am also not doing this so that I won’t be fat anymore. You see, I like myself just the way I am. If you find that hard to believe then I’m sorry, but you need an attitude adjustment. I am not driven by the prospect of wearing a bikini on the beach (while I drink that ice cold beer, mind you). I tried that, and it didn’t work. Every time I try to lose weight to get thin, it never happens. Because I don’t need to be thin to be happy. I am already happy, and I seriously love myself.
The other day, a little kid asked me if I was preggers. I didn’t get offended or anything, but it made me realize that I should get started on this whole fitness journey. I blogged about it recently, and it’s time to get this ball rolling, Luckily, I’ve found a whole new motivation, a whole new objective, and I think this time it will work.
So, what exactly is my goal here? Well, I want to be fit.
Please notice that I used fit and not healthy. Yes, there is a difference. Being healthy means that your body is functioning properly, that your system is well balanced, and you are not sick or injured. Now, I may not look it, but I am most definitely healthy. Yup, my test results say that I am healthy as a horse. Granted, this one right here is a cute and cuddly chubby horse, but a healthy one nonetheless. My blood pressure is normal, so are my sugar and sodium levels, my cholesterol, and all those other things that they test for.
Thing is, I may be healthy, but I am most certainly not fit. I can’t climb a flight of stairs without wheezing by the time I get to the top. I can’t run to save my life. All the sports I used to be able to do are now just happy memories playing around in my head. I actually get dizzy after just 25 jumping jacks. See, being fit means that you are able to do strenuous physical activity. I cannot. To give you an idea of just how bad it is, here is something that I tweeted earlier this evening:
Okay, I hope I still have your attention. If I do, I’d like to welcome you to my Fabulously Fit Mommy Project! *Cue applause*
I am doing this because I know that, while I am lucky to be healthy now, this may not last forever. Things change as people get older, and right now, I’m still pretty young. I don’t want it to reach a point where age will catch up to me and kick me in the butt.
Today is day one of this new lifestyle adjustment, and I outlined five things that I would like to initially accomplish in this whole endeavor.
- Move more and eat less (calories). Every day.
- Learn to prepare healthy meals and snacks.
- Find a fitness buddy, or better yet, a fitness circle!
- Regularly feature amazing fit moms in order to inspire myself and others. I already have a few in mind.
- Keep tabs on my progress, and of course share it with anyone who might want to join me on this journey.
I think I know what I’m doing, but of course I am open to all the tips, tricks, and motivation that I can get. Consider this intro post as my way of soliciting your support. I think I’m off to a good start though. I’ve created a new MyFitnessPal account for the purpose of food and exercise tracking. If any of you use that app too, I’d love it if you could add me up!
Would you like to join me on this fitness journey? I hope you say yes!

I used to be fit and healthy. I’ve always been slim. I haven’t been taking care of myself lately and while still fit, am no longer healthy. A trip to the doctor has fixed all that as I prepare to go to bed “early”.
Good on you for being happy with yourself. If you can’t love yourself, it’s hard to be happy. Looking forward to reading about all your successes.

Count me in! I too am trying to get fit and change to a more healthier lifestyle. Started about a week ago cutting down on rice. That’s the culprit (as far as we are concerned). We devour more than a cup, hahaha!. http://on.fb.me/ZDE5z4. I try different alternatives especially when the craving starts kicking in. Here’s one of our faves to make at home http://on.fb.me/ZDE5z4. Let’s do this not just to be fit but for our children’s sake. we have to be healthy for them and to model healthy eating and lifestyle. Let’s do this!
